Charles Werner and Catherine Hilgert Werner, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, 1880s

Studio portrait photograph of Charles Werner and Catherine/Katherine Hilgert Werner. Written on back (incl. simple family tree): "Mr. & Mrs. Charles Werner, 61 Kidder St., 20 Dec. 1882 [note: is this wedding date or photo date?] (Wilkes Barre, Penn)." Charles and Katherine had daughters Christina, Kate/Katie, and Charles. Christina married Sidney Weir and had daughter Christine. Katherine Hilgert died 1893 in childbirth (twins). Charles remarried Sarah Jane Poole. Note: this is the only known photograph of these two individuals. Charles is seated in a chair and Catherine stands behind him. Due to the faded or poorly developed aspects of the photo, someone unfortunately used ink to attempt to enhance their facial features at some point, distorting their appearance. Also attached to this record is an additional copy of the photo. On the reverse, Christine Robb wrote: "Charles Werner. My grandparents- she died in 1896? in childbirth having twins."
